Shepherd Allen Booth Jr.

He was born June 5, 1922, in Lawrenceville, Virginia, son of Shepherd Allen Booth and Elizabeth Purdy Booth. Col. Booth attended Davidson College, U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Georgetown University. A retired and highly decorated Army veteran, Col. Booth also attended the Air War College in Montgomery, AL.

Surviving: Son, Shepherd Allen Booth III (Jackie) of Crestline, California; daughter, Lee Booth Hoffman (Phillip) of Raleigh; cousin Judy Bailey, Providence Forge, VA, and two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Booth of Long Beach, CA and Bryan Miles Hoffman of Hilton Head Island, SC. Step-children, Turner Westray Battle (Ashton) of Palm Beach, Fla., Stephen Shackelford Battle (Andrea) of Raleigh, and Richard Staats Battle (Carol) of Raleigh, and four step-grandchildren.

According to his wishes, Col. Booth will be cremated.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 7 at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Road, Raleigh, with the Rev. Rick Clayton officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to the memorial service.
