Steve Conrad was a very special long time, friend.   He was loved and respected by all.
We travelled all over the world with Steve and Dolores.  We will always hold dear, the friendship cemented by those travels.  
Steve served his profession, State and Nation expertly and loyally.  
He has earned an honored place in our hearts along with Carol, Anne, and Craig.

In the 1970s I was fortunate to meet Steve Conrad and his charming wife, Dolores, at an AASG meeting.  Steve was the most distinguished gentleman I'd ever met, with a deep drawl and wise, reserved manner.  At the closing banquet of the meeting the attendees were enjoying bluegrass by the Toadsuck Symphony  and people began to chant, "Steve, Steve...." After at least 10 minutes of Steve slowly shaking his head and evidently ignoring our pleas, he finally rose and treated us to a burst of clogging up and down the aisle leading to the stage.  Then he unceremoniously returned to his seat while we applauded. A study in contrasts. My condolences go to Steve's family and I hope your memories provide comfort in your loss.

On behalf of the member states of the Interstate Mining Compact Commission, we send our sincere condolences on the passing of Steve Conrad.  Steve was one of the founding members of our organization and was a considerable force and presence in its success and effectiveness over the years.  We recall his involvement with both appreciation and fondness.  He was an inspiration to many and a delight to work with.  I am particularly appreciative of Steve's kindnesses and guidance, as he was directly responsible for hiring me as the second executive director of the organization and setting me upon a journey that has lasted these past 23 years.  We send our sympathy to his family and pray that they will be comforted by the knowledge of Steve's legacy, which even now continues here at IMCC.  God's peace and blessings.

It was my privilege to work with Steve in the 1970's at NRCD, and again over the past few years on  the SECU board.  What a solid, wonderful man-----a steady, sturdy colleague and friend, with an easy smile.  He was a person of great principle and he will be missed.

I got an email this morning from Mike Hughes informing me of Steve's death.  Steve was a very special person to me and I will always smile thinking of the times we spent together.  Delores, Carol and Ann, my thoughts, love and prayers are with you. God bless you all.

We are so saddened to hear of Steve's passing. The boys and I put a small wreath and some decorations on the dock yesterday in honor of him. The river will not be the same without him. Love to you Dolores and to the family. He was a lovely man and will never be forgotten.

We were very saddened to learn of Mr. Conrad's passing and are keeping your family in our prayers.  It was a privilege to have known and worked with him for numerous years during his volunteer service at State Employees' Credit Union.  A shining example of the giving spirit and credit union "People Helping People" philosophy, he was very much loved and respected.  We will miss him.

Mr. Conrad was a great friend to the aggregates industry in NC.  He will be dearly missed.
