Thomas Irving Sturdivant

Thomas Irving Sturdivant, 84, formerly of Youngsville, NC passed away May 14, 2012, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC after a period of declining health. Mr. Sturdivant was born December 5, 1927 in Wake County, NC to the late Irving Sturdivant and Ora Thomas Sturdivant.

Tom, who will be remembered by so many for calling them “Bobo”, was a veteran of the Armed Forces, worked for NC State University in their printing department and eventually retired from his own printing company, Piedmont Litho in Raleigh, NC. Tom was an avid sports fan of all sports, mainly baseball, bowling and anything to do with NC State. He led an exciting life and could detail his adventures in his many stories he would share with his children, grandchildren and friends.

Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years, Louise Underwood Sturdivant; children, Denise Sturdivant of Youngsville, NC, Gary Sturdivant (Beth) of Lawrenceville, GA, and Mickey Sturdivant (Beth Anne) of Hickory, NC; 8 grandchildren, Tiffany Beale Maw (Matt) of Youngsville, NC, Chevy Beale of Youngsville, NC, Zachery Beale of Youngsville, NC, Austin Sturdivant of Lawrenceville, GA, Aaron Sturdivant of Lawrenceville, GA, Aleah Sturdivant of Lawrenceville, GA, Caroline Sturdivant of Hickory, NC and McKenzie Sturdivant of Hickory, NC. Tom is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, Kayla Maw, Emily Maw and Sara Maw, all of Youngsville, NC.

Tom’s family would like to thank each and every one who came into his life at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC. Their love and care cannot be measured and the family is deeply thankful for their care of Tom in his days there.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:00 am at Mount Herman Christian Church Cemetery, 8925 White Oak Road, Garner, NC 27529.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 27584, Raleigh, NC 27601.

The Sturdivant family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.
