
Weslyn Wynn Strickland, of Chapel Hill, NC, died Friday, December 21, 2018. Born in Russell County, Alabama; she was one of three children of the late Gladys Malloy Wynn and Morris Phillip Wynn, of Columbus, Georgia. Her siblings are Morris Phillip Wynn and Mary Jane Wadkins, both of Columbus, Georgia.
Weslyn was married to the late Henry Reid Strickland. They lived all over the United States during their 60+ years of marriage. Together they had two daughters, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Weslyn completed her Master's Degree at the University of Cincinnati. As an educator, she enjoyed teaching young children how to read. Weslyn and her husband volunteered with the National Park Service at Cape Lookout, NC, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Naples, FL, Charlotte Public Library, Siskey YMCA of Matthews, NC, Collier County Audubon Society and various churches where they lived. Weslyn and Henry were "Birders" and traveled the US to find "Lifers". Weslyn was a music enthusiast; she played the piano, sang and enjoyed the symphony, opera and ballet. She was the consummate educator and scientist, and felt every moment was "curriculum and a teachable moment". Weslyn donated her body for scientific studies.
