William Hunter Lumsden Jr. was called to heaven on May 26th peacefully while at home. While we are heartbroken by our loss, we are deeply thankful for his life well-lived and comforted in knowing that, through Christ, we will see him again. Hunter was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, family member, and friend — and above all, simply “a good guy.” He loved his family deeply and faithfully, living his life with quiet generosity, integrity, and unwavering love.
Hunter was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, to William “Bill” Hunter Lumsden Sr., and Margaret Bateman Lumsden. He attended NC State University where he graduated with honors with a degree in chemical engineering. Hunter went on to build a successful business, Penn Davis Coatings, with one of his best friends. He loved fishing, boating, and most of all sitting in a rocking chair on the back porch of his beach house, taking in the view.
Hunter is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Nesbitt Lumsden, his brother Joseph “Joe” Bateman Lumsden (Judy), and his four daughters, Dita Lumsden, Greta Lumsden, Melissa Duncan (Cameron), and Meghan Presnell (Stuart). He was also blessed with seven grandchildren, Jordan, Joli, Will, Hunter, Henderson, Larkin, and Lacy.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at Hayes Barton Methodist Church on Thursday June 4th at 2:00pm led by the pastors of White Memorial Presbyterian with a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh, NC 27608, or to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh is serving the Lumsden family.
