

Yo Rmah passed away peacefully early morning on June 27, 2019 at his home in Raleigh, NC. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life. Yo was born in Plei Sop, Vietnam on July 3,1930, he was 6 days shy of his 89th birthday when he passed. Yo was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and his wife were married for over seventy plus years and had five children. In 1975, Yo and his family fled Vietnam for safety and made the jungle of Cambodia their safe Haven until they were granted asylum from the United States. In 1992, they became the second group of Montagnards to come to America where he made Raleigh, North Carolina his forever home.
Yo, was a head chief in his community, who took on a role of protecting his people and providing them with the necessary essential for a better life. He was an intellectual man, and very well respected in the Montagnard community. When he came to Raleigh, he took retirement and helped raised his grandchildren with his wife. Yo was a generous man, a loving , kind hearted soul. He was a comedian at heart , and could make you laugh at any giving moment. He never took life to serious , and always took the time to enjoy the view. Yo, was very crafty. He could make any instruments and baskets from bamboo.
In 2013, it he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. A progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. He slowly was being forgetful and losing his memory. When he started not to recognize his own family , it was heartbroken. Every year It had gotten worse. His wife was his caregiver, she always stood by his side to the very end. No matter how bad the disease took over him, it never changed who he was as a person. You would never see him struggle or frustrated because Yo always had a smile on his face. Yo was always smiling and laughing , he was always happy.
Yo is survived by his wife Hpip Siu, his children Hem, Hun and Ynun, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predecease by his children Hmi (1986) and Ykot (2015). Yo lived a wonderful life surrounded by family and friends. He was a simple man , who never judged but love you for the person you are.
