

Betty Jo was born on November 5, 1927 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to parents William Arthur and Lottie Oakes. Betty Jo had been a long-time Ravenna resident and was married to the late surveyor Albert Szuch. Over time she had been a bank teller and was very involved in the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, holding various positions within the church groups. Betty Jo was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Delta Sorosis, and Junior Thursday Literary Club. A life-long bridge player she so enjoyed her weekly games with her friends: Lois Campana, Shirley Houston, Lou Duffy and Doris Andrei. Betty Jo enjoyed travelling, especially to Scotland where her ancestry began and Arizona to visit her daughter Lynn and her family.
Betty Jo is survived by her children: Lynn (Thomas) Smith and Rob Szuch. Surviving also are grandchildren: Jennifer (Nick) Chrzaszcz, Brandon Smith, great-grandson Jacob Chrzaszcz and her sister-in-law Virginia Oakes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, and her brothers Bob and Bill Oakes.
