Bonnie Evelyn Shewell

Evelyn was born on the 1st day of August 1925, on Jesse Run in Lewis County, West Virginia to Jake and Missouri “Zura” Hefner. Evelyn grew up in a loving family of siblings James, Carrie, Virginia and Rosalie. The Hefner family came to reside in Edinburg, Ohio in the 1930s.

Evelyn met and was courted by Robert King Shewell, marrying him on the 29th day of September 1940, beginning raising their Christian family on the Shewell ancestral home in Edinburg, which is where she resided until God called her home.

She was a member of Truth Baptist Church in Atwater and prior to that, a long-time member and Sunday school teacher at Atwater Baptist Church. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, canning what she grew, and loved baking, especially cookies. She was an easy-going, happy and friendly woman whose primary focus was the love for her family.

Evelyn is survived by her loving children James Shewell, Carol Brown, Eric (Peggy) Shewell, Wayne (Kathy) Shewell and Laura (Greg) Ochoa. She will also be sadly missed by her beloved 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 siblings, her grandson, Jake Shewell, and daughter-in-law, Judy Shewell.

Friends will be received Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, from 11am until the funeral service, officiated by Pastor Roy Teague, beginning at 12pm. Interment at Edinburg cemetery will follow.
