Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on November 1, 1946, to Wayne and Reatha (Lyles) Ferguson, Cecilia carried a spirit of service throughout her life. She honorably served her country in the U.S. Army for 20 years before retiring. Demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Saint Leo University and a master’s degree from Mississippi State University. After retiring at the age of 46, she began a short 8-year career in management for Radio Shack Corporation.
Cecilia’s faith was important to her, and while in Tupelo, she attended Lane Chapel CME Church. A lover of travel, she cherished many trips, especially to West Virginia with her long-time companion, Mary Ammerman. Her greatest joys, however, were found closer to home: she absolutely adored her furry friend “Quincy,” and enthusiastically spent time with her family, above all, prioritizing her time with her beloved grandsons.
As resident of Rootstown, Cecilia leaves a rich legacy of love. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Grice-Ragin, and her 3 beloved grandsons, Bishop Ragin, Deacon Ragin and Churchyll Ragin. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Sylvia A. Ferguson; her niece, Johna (Lee) Rusk; and great-nephews Bryce and Brayden Rusk. She will be fondly remembered by her companion, Mary Ammerman; her son-in-law, Clifton Ragin Jr.; her “adopted sisters,” Rebecca Dantone & Jane Cheuvront; and many loving cousins, friends, and the cherished “Brimfield Bunch.”
Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Cecilia’s Life will be held at Community Bible Church in Rootstown, Ohio, on December 18, beginning at 5:00pm. Food and fellowship will follow at Brimfield Family Restaurant. The inurnment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with full military honors. Inquire with family regarding arrangements.
