

Charles was born in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Charles L. McConnell and Mellissa (Shaffer) McConnell August 5, 1944. He was brother to Barbara Jeanne, James Bradford, Emma Louise, Patricia Ann, David Allen and Catherine Loa.
He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to when he was discharged in 1967 as a Petty Officer 2nd Class. He first served as a damage controlman on the U.S.S. Randolph and was then stationed at Argentia Naval Air Station in Newfoundland where he served as an instructor, teaching chemical warfare preparedness to base personnel.
On January 17, 1970 he married Bonnie Kay Sampson, the love of his life in Steubenville, Ohio. They were married for 52 years and together had three children, Cynthia Lynn (Rick) Skidmore, Charles Christopher McConnell and James Bradford (Nicole) McConnell. He was a proud Papa to nine grandchildren: Justin, Joshua, Gabe, Ian, Beckah, Scout, Isaac, Eleanor and Bennett.
He is proceeded in death by his parents; his siblings Barbara Jeanne, James Bradford and Emma Louise; and his wife, Bonnie.
Known by everyone as Charlie, he was a kind-hearted and fun-loving individual. He also worked tirelessly to provide for his family for 36 years in the auto industry. Charlie worked for General Motors at Lordstown Industrial Complex from 1970 to his retirement in 2006.
Charlie and Bonnie moved to Palmetto, Florida on a full-time basis in 2015 where they lived in a community of very cherished friends who became more like family over the years. They participated in such activities as Saturday morning Coffee Hour, going on frequent bike rides and taking walks. He and his wife attended Palmetto First Baptist Church where they loved serving their Lord and being surrounded by others who loved Jesus as well. Charlie testified as a child of God to his very last day.
Burial with military honors will take place Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Edinburg Cemetery. Friends and family will be received Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM with a memorial service at 2:00 PM at the New Baltimore Community Church, 7761 Pontius Street NE, Alliance, Ohio.
