Daniel Parker Grice Sr., a proud Army Veteran and an avid sports fan, passed away surrounded by love on January 9, 2026. He lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, loyalty, and deep devotion to those he loved.
Dan found his faith while attending the Auberle Boys Town in McKeesport, PA at the young age of eleven. Boys Town was also where he developed a passion for playing baseball and basketball. He spent his adolescent years living at Boys Town until his enlistment into the United States Army at age 17. He honorably served his country; a source of pride he carried with him throughout his life. Dan was a trained sharpshooter and also served as a Radiotelephone Operator (RTO). He served in the 22nd Infantry and was awarded an Army Occupational Medal while serving in Germany. Following his service, he spent more than 25 years driving truck across the country for Roadway Express where he was a member of the Teamsters Local 24, and received the “Individual Million-Mile Safe Driver Award.” He embraced the open road and built a career grounded in reliability, perseverance, and commitment.
Dan found great joy on the golf course, whether playing in his local leagues or traveling on golf trips with his treasured golfing buddies; always carrying his bag of clubs in the trunk for a last-minute round of golf. His passion for cars was equally strong, and he rarely missed his weekly visits to local car shows, where he enjoyed admiring classic vehicles and sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts.
In his later years, Dan fully embraced life—vacationing, camping, attending concerts and gatherings, boating, and spending meaningful time with his family and friends. His daughter made sure he never sat still for long, keeping him active and on the go, creating countless heartfelt memories made purely in the name of love.
He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Loretta. Dan and Loretta were married for 61 wonderful years and shared three children; Daniel Parker Grice Jr. of Tallmadge; Dean Grice of Michigan; and his beloved “Little Lori,” Lori Miller (Randy) of Uniontown. In the early years of marriage, Dan’s time off the road was often spent playing baseball and football in the side yard with his three children and the neighborhood kids. He was also blessed to be united with his grandson, Jackson, and while their time together was short, Dan cherished the precious time they shared getting to know one another. Dan’s smile would light up a room upon Jackson entering.
Dan was blessed with devoted care from his son-in-law, who faithfully supported him, ensuring he made it to every doctor’s appointment and was never alone during his most challenging times. He enjoyed his time with his sons while watching tv, laughing, and reminiscing while sitting together or over the many phone calls shared with one another—moments to be remembered for a lifetime. Dan also leaves behind his half-sister Lisa Grice; half-brother Rusty Grice (Gina) of Pennsylvania, and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.
Big Dan now finds peace, reunited in heaven with Loretta, where they will spend eternity together. He was also preceded in death by his mother Bette Hoffman, father Russell Grice, and sister Toni Johnson (Joe).
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, sense of humor, the countless stories, and the love he gave to his friends and family.
His family would like to extend an invitation to all in joining them for a celebration of his life at 1 o’clock on January 31st, 2026, at the Ravenna Elks Lodge, 776 N. Freedom Street, Ravenna. Military honors will begin at 1pm.
