Earl was born in Ravenna, Ohio on December 19, 1926 to parents Eldis and Edith (Shilliday) Phile. Earl graduated from Edinburg High School and had been a hard working dairy farmer for over 50 years as well as operating Phile Bros. Coal and Lime Company with his brother Merle for 60 years. Having lived in Edinburg his entire life, he was a life member of the Edinburg United Church and a member of the Portage County Farm Bureau. He loved attending the Portage County and Canfield Fairs every year. Farming was Earl’s passion and he always kept up with the evolving equipment and farming methods, never missing his annual trip to Columbus for the Science and Farm Review. He was a very kind and generous man who loved the outdoors and enjoyed socializing with all of his close friends that grew up together. Most of all he valued his family and had been a faithful and compassionate caretaker to his wife Ardythe.
Earl is survived by his children: Gregory Phile, Diana (Ed) Kentner, and Jeffrey (Debbie) Phile. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Kristen Kentner, Jason Kentner, Emily Reeves, Ryan Phile, Jenna Phile and his great-granddaughter Olivia Dixon. Earl also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ardythe, his brothers Merle and Everett and his sister Eileen.
