Edward J. "Ted" Hughes

He was born March 10, 1930, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to parents John Edgar and Margaret (Gorman) Hughes. Ted graduated from Ursuline High School in 1948. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force. Ted retired from Republic Steel in 1983 after 33 years of service. He also worked as the manager of Roseland III Bowling Center in Ravenna, Trexler Rubber in Kent, and most recently at Montigney’s Hardware. Ted was a member of the University Parish Newman Center in Kent.

On November 29, 1952, Ted married the love of his life, Mary Ann Harrison, at St. Joseph Church in Warren, Pennsylvania. In addition to his wife, Ted is also survived by their children: Eileen (Dennis) Kelly of Ravenna, Col(R) Nancy (Jack) Collins of Shrewsbury, MA, Ann (Charles) Jalbert of Ravenna, and Thomas (Tina) Hughes of Tallmadge, as well as their grandchildren: Victoria Kelly, Caitlin Kelly, Matthew (Katie) Hughes, Meaghan (fiancé Patrick Pavuk) Hughes-Severtson, Riann Hughes, Zach Hughes, Michelle (Korey) Briggs, Patrick Jalbert, and Michael Jalbert, and their great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Owen, and Hannah Hughes.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Coughlin, and his brother William P. Hughes.

Friends will be received Thursday, August 20, 2015, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Richard Murphy and Reverend Steve Agostino at 11:00 AM on Friday at the University Parish Newman Center, 1424 Horning Rd., Kent. Interment will take place on Saturday at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Cemetery in Warren, Pennsylvania, with military honors.
