

He was born January 19th, 1927, in Ravenna, Ohio. He graduated from Ravenna High School and served in the Army Air Corps, 45th Reconnaissance Squadron, in World War II. He was the Knights of Columbus Portage Co. Veteran of the Year 2009-2010. Ed worked for many years for the Portage County Engineers, became a Registered Professional Surveyor, and then ran a successful land surveying business until retiring in 2010. He was always ready to help anyone in need; he volunteered his services at the Knights of Columbus Bingo. He enjoyed traveling, going to many casinos and visiting family and friends. Ed attended Immaculate Conception Church and was a part time usher. He was a member of the Ravenna VFW, Moose, and the Elks, United Methodist Bible Study group, and the Rubber City Harmonica Club.
Ed is survived by his wife Betty, his sister Veronica Vaughn of Burton, daughter Rebecca A. Wanchick of Denver, CO, sons John B. Wanchick (Margie) and Michael O. Wanchick, both of Columbus, step son Darrin Polifrone of Cuyahoga Falls, step daughter Andrea Stanley of Ravenna, grandson Weston Edward Wanchick of Columbus, grandsons Jeff Stanley (Mindy) of Southington, Edward and Richard Lizer of Denver, CO, Joel, Dominic, Alex, and Anthony Polifrone of Cuyahoga Falls, and granddaughter Jessica Polifrone of Cuyahoga Falls, and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Sisters-in-law: Dolores Yakubek (Ashley) of Cortland, Margie Fowler (Charles) of Garrettsville, Rose Clark of Windham, Mary Reed (Bud) of Newton Falls, Frank Yaratch (Marian) of Deerfield, Edward Yaratch (Betsy) of Sandusky, Eva McCarty (Jim) of Cortland, David Yaratch (Shirley) of Garrettsville, Arthur Yaratch (Marcia) of Las Vegas, and Frances Basile of Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Genevieve Wanchick, his son Edward (Chick) Wanchick, and his granddaughter Amber Lizer.
Family will receive friends at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, on Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend John Madden at the Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
