

Eleanor Eva Pennell passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on August 20, 2017, following a long illness. Eleanor was born at Brady Lake on August 25, 1924, the only child of James “Curly” and Ella Bastedo. She grew up in Kent, graduating from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1942.
During WWII Eleanor supported the war effort by working as a secretary at a candy company in Cuyahoga Falls, commuting three hours daily by bus and streetcar from New Milford for her job. Throughout her youth, she worked with her parents at the family’s restaurants, Curly’s in Kent and later Tall Pines Farm in Rootstown.
Eleanor married James Pennell during the “Blizzard of 1950.” During his military career, they lived in California, Hawaii, and Virginia. They finally settled in Brimfield in 1962 where they raised their family. Eleanor was a member of Eastern Star ~ Lei Aloha Chapter #3 in Honolulu, Hawaii and Trinity Lutheran Church in Kent.
Survivors include her daughter Pamella Krysiak of Rootstown, son Larry (Diana) Pennell of Brimfield, grandchildren: Andrew (Rachael), Scott, and Douglas Krysiak, Zeke Curtis and Heidi Rupp, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, son-in-law Allan Krysiak, and granddaughter Annie Pennell.
The family wishes to thank Mom’s dear friend Shelby Seibert for her many years of loving care and companionship. Also thanks to Pastor Douglas E. Fidler and Trinity Lutheran Church for their many years of visitation and prayer.
As per Eleanor’s wishes, there are to be no flowers please. If desired, memorial gifts may be sent to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 600 S. Water St., Kent, OH 44240.
