

She was born August 31, 1940, in Canton, Ohio, to parents Anthony and Elizabeth (Gerber) Crum. Elizabeth was affectionately known as Betty to her family and friends. On November 22, 1962, she married her beloved husband Ronald Alan McEachen at St. Joseph Church in Canton.
Betty graduated from Kent State University and went on to have a lengthy teaching career. She started teaching for the Youngstown Diocese, Saint Joseph’s School in Canton and Stow City Schools. Eventually she made her way to Ravenna City Schools and taught at West Main and Tappan Elementary. Betty was a life member of the National Education Association, Ohio Education Association, and the Portage County Retired Teachers Association.
Betty was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Parish. She served as the church’s past president of Our Lady’s Guild, secretary of the Young at Heart Club, teacher in their Parish School of Religion, member of the Infant of Prague, and as a Eucharistic Minister.
Betty loved to quilt and was a member of a group that made quilts for veterans. She also loved reading, cooking, and studying herbs. Betty was a member of the Portage County Herb Society and the Garden Club. Most of all, she loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Betty is survived by her children: Christina (Blair) Stockley, Julia (Michael) McEachen Armbruster, and Ronald McEachen, her grandchildren: Claire Armbruster Cross, Hannah Armbruster Schul, Camille Armbruster, Kristopher, Cameron, and Blake Stockley, Olivia, Jacob, Madeline, Lillian, Ingrid, Henry, and Maccabee McEachen, her great-granddaughter Fiona Cross, and her sister Kathleen (Bill) Crum Midian.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ronald McEachen, her brothers Joseph and Richard Crum, her sister Mary Crum Mickley, and her granddaughter Cecelia McEachen.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E Main St, Ravenna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend William Kraynak at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 3rd at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W Main St, Ravenna. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
