

Born April 17,1935, in Hiram, Ohio, to George and Josephine (Gordon) Bishop, George grew up with a strong work ethic and deep faith that shaped his life. He attended James A. Garfield School in Garrettsville, Ohio, where he enjoyed playing the baritone horn in the school band. As a young man, he worked on several farms and at his brother's gas station.
On February 7, 1958, George married the love of his life, Kathleen (Wyant) Bishop, in Garrettsville, Ohio. Together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. George served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he built a long and dedicated career as a stationary engineer at General Motors in Lordstown, from which he eventually retired.
A man of steadfast faith, George was dedicated to attending church throughout his life and was most recently a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Ravenna. He would want everyone to know that the way to heaven is through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Josephine Bishop; siblings Don Gordon, Merrill Johnson, Burt Johnson, and Pearl (Johnson) Underwood; and by his son, George Junior Bishop.
He is Survived by his cherished wife, Kathleen (Wyant) Bishop; son David (Sharon) Bishop; and grandchildren Richelle (Brent) Garrett and James (Rachel) Bishop.
Friends and family will be received Friday, April 10, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM with funeral services officiated by Pastor Bob Burgess at 11:00 AM at New Testament Baptist Church in Ravenna. Interment will follow at Charlestown Cemetery with military honors.
