Jerry was born on August 10, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio, but was a resident of Ravenna for the majority of his life. Jerry was a proud Navy Veteran where he served with the MCB-6 Seabees. He retired from Ohio Bell after a successful career that saw him climb (literally) from lineman to foreman/manager. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Ravenna where he served for years as an usher and in committee and trustee roles. Jerry also served as Troop 555’s Scoutmaster for many years.
His sons were both members of the troop under Jerry’s leadership. Jerry was devoted to his faith and family and had a temperamental relationship with his Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed fishing, golf and in his later years, overseeing the Brode homestead from atop his John Deere lawn tractor.
Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Beverly (Davis) Brode, parents Oscar and Juanita (Wilms) Brode, brothers Charles A. (Al) Brode, Norman Brode, and Glen William (Billy) Weber.
He leaves behind his wife, Dottie (Miller) Brode, sons Jerry (Kelly) and Mike (Teresa) Brode, step-children Michael (Lisa) Eisentraut, Michele Lilly and Mark (Kelly) Eisentraut. He also leaves grandchildren Courtney (Joe) Scheiderich, Amy (Brian) Leonard, Davis, Jared and Hannah Brode, Amber (Mike) Osborne, Sara (Adam) Heppe, Sean (Ginny) Eisentraut, Katelyn (Curtis) Pennington, Emmelee (Jareth) Eisentraut, Amanda Eisentraut, Haley Eisentraut and Lindsey Eisentraut. Left also are great-grandchildren Pete Leonard, Olivia Osborne, Allison Osborne, A.J. Heppe, Magdalene Heppe, Ida Mae Heppe, Dorthea Heppe, Sorryn Phok, and sisters- in-law Carolyn Chambers, Nancy Davis and Marcia Landon.
In honoring his request, cremation has taken place and the family will be having a private Celebration of Life service in his honor.
Jerry’s family would like to thank the staff and nurses with Crossroads Hospice Care for their support and care. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jerry’s memory to the Disabled Veterans of America.
