He was born on December 11, 1930, in Randolph, Ohio to the late Victor Andrew and Clara Catherine (Engelhart) Horning. He attended St. Joseph Elementary School and graduated from Randolph High School.
Jim was a devoted husband and married to the love of his life, Marcy, for over 72 years. He worked as a welder and mechanic at HM Miller Construction Company for more than 40 years and was a member of Ohio Operating Engineers. Jim built his own home where he lived and played among family and friends until his death. He had a brilliant mechanical mind and was always helping others with building and welding projects. A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, Jim’s faith guided his every day, touching the lives of his family and all who were blessed enough to know him. Known for never wanting to sit still and needing something to do, he was always looking for the next problem to solve. As the life of the party and a natural entertainer, Jim had a gift for bringing people together – whether it be hosting friends and family, winning at Rummikub, playing a competitive card game, or making a witty remark that left everyone laughing. He loved ice skating, lending a helping hand to anyone in need, and could fix just about anything put in front of him. Always on the go and full of life, Jim leaves behind a legacy of generosity, selflessness, faith, humor, and love that touched all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his children, Patricia Eichler, Suzanne Livengood, Kenneth Horning, David (Karen) Horning, James (Sherry) Horning, and Julie (James) Vogt; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
