John B. Keegan

John B. Keegan, age 71 of Ravenna, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021, surrounded by his family.

He was born December 18, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to parents Wilbur Vincent and Ruth (Hickman) Keegan. John graduated from Kent State University with a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration. He was a longtime teacher and coach, starting his career at Garfield High School in Garrettsville, then Streetsboro High School, and later retiring from Ravenna High School in 2009. Mr. Keegan taught history, government and sociology. He was the Social Studies Department Head prior to retirement. "Coach Keegan" coached football, track, wrestling and basketball over the years. John worked as a seasonal worker every summer for Ravenna Parks and Recreation.

John was a devout Catholic and longtime member of Immaculate Conception Parish serving his faith as a Eucharistic Minister and Reader. John was also a talented guitarist and vocalist, who was a founding member of FOG. He was a longtime member of Ravenna Elks Lodge 1076 and American Legion Post 331. John enjoyed the outdoors, especially when golfing, fishing, or hunting. He was also a member of APCO hunting club and taught hunter safety classes.

On November 11, 1989, John married his beloved Leslee (Fullum). In addition to Leslee, John is survived by his children: Michael (Kasey) Keegan, Colleen (Matt Kuffel) Keegan, Patrick (Stephanie Bautista) Keegan, Kevin Keegan, Nicole (Ron) Alexander, Nathan Kelley, and Amber (Michael) Decker, as well as his grandchildren: Summer, Sadie, Connor, Noah, Ashton, Sloane, Marissa, Ravenna, Sophia, Rowan, Avery, Archie, and Ty, along with his brother Jerry (Carolyn) Keegan, his mother-in-law Daryle Fullum, and a host of nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim Keegan, and his father-in-law Ernie Fullum.

John’s wishes for cremation are being honored. Friends and family will be received Friday, June 18, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, with an Elks Service following at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend James Lang on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Raven Packs, PO Box 728, Ravenna, OH 44266.

Michael and Family,

So sorry to hear the sad news about your dad! I’ll always be grateful to him for his caring guidance and support that he gave me as a young teacher and coach. Those times were so important to me in terms of how my career was shaped. I hope he realized how much he meant to me!! Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

So sorry for your loss, Leslie, and family members. John was a leader on and off the field in high school, and it was my honor to have played football with him at Ravenna High School. John was one of our captains on the football team, and had the respect of all of his teammates. A special person who put a lot of life in his years with us. Stay strong, as he will be missed by many. MANY MEMORIES OF COACH KEEGAN, HE HELPED SHAPE ME AS A YOUNG MAN AND I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM . GREAT GUIDANCE IN BASKETBALL PRACTICES ,WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER RUNNING SQUEEKERS!!
