On May 25th, Lillian Bereck passed away, surrounded by loving family members.
Lillian was born in Cleveland in 1928 to Molly and Andrew Swaddell and had lived in Ravenna since 1955. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, and will be greatly missed by many.
She met her loving husband, Frank, at a dance hall in Cleveland and they were married in 1948. They enjoyed dancing throughout their nearly 40 years of marriage. Together, they had 4 children, Tom, Dan, David (Susan), and Susan. Lillian was a devoted mother to her 4 children, always giving them guidance and being there when needed. She was active in the Immaculate Conception Church as a CCD teacher, Young at Heart, and Infant of Prague, as well as many other church activities. Lillian was also a Brownie leader, a member of a Card Club group for over 60 years, as well as a member of the Red Hat Society.
After her children were grown, she worked part time at the Record Courier. She was a very active grandmother for her 8 grandchildren, often babysitting when they were younger and giving them direction and guidance. Lillian hosted annual Christmas Eve celebrations with her family members for her entire life, serving Slovenian sausage and other tasty delights. She was also admired by her nephews, nieces, and friends. One recently described her as always being “welcoming and kind”.
After the passing of her husband Frank, Lillian had a cherished companion, Vessy Gauding. Lillian is survived by her four children: Thomas, Dan, David (wife Susan), and Susan Meyer; her brother David Swaddell in California; her grandchildren: Alana (husband David) Gerhardt, Andrew, Aubrey, Bryce, Brynn, Michael, Luke and Mark; and one great-grandchild Benjamin.
Friends will be received at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna, on Wednesday, June 1, from 10am until the Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Rev. William Kraynak beginning at 11am. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church in lieu of flowers.
