Melvin D. Hughes

He was born November 25, 1942, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Alan D. and Catherine (Stevens) Hughes. Mel retired from the GE plant in Ravenna after over 30 years in the security department. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Vietnam War. Mel was a member of Moose Lodge 1234 and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Vanie Hughes; children: Kim (Dick) Richards of Kent, Eric (Debbie) Morley of Charlestown, and Alan (Kelli) Hughes of Ravenna; grandchildren: Anna Flynn, Lena Richards, and Mercedes Morley; great-grandchildren: Jack and Molly Flynn, as well as his sisters Faye and Charlotte. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Thelma, Arlene, and Ellen, and his brothers Jesse and Ted.

Cremation has taken place, and friends will be received Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
