

He was born April 4, 1928, in New Milford, Ohio, a son of the late Smith and Evelyn (Booth) Dunn. Robert was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rootstown, UCC. Mr. Dunn was dedicated to the community of Rootstown and to all of Portage County. Robert was twice elected as Rootstown Citizen of the Year. He was a charter member of the Rootstown Lions Club and received an award for 50 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of the Rootstown Alumni Association, the Akron University Alumni Association, and the Kent State University Alumni Association.
Robert served as a school superintendent for many years beginning with Atwater, then Rootstown and Green, until retiring from the Stow school district in 1990. He is a member of the Portage County Retired Teachers Association, former chairman of the Portage County Republican Party, as well as former director of the Portage County Disaster Service. Mr. Dunn was a successful football coach at Rootstown having eight championship seasons, and was inducted into the Portage County Hall of Fame.
He was also dedicated to his loving family. Robert enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his children: Susan Dunn of Akron, Laura (George) Kazaglis of Napa, CA, Robin Dunn of Clearwater, FL, Barb (Don) Marcello of Rootstown, and Robert (Becky) Dunn of Palmyra; grandchildren: Nick Kazaglis, Katie Marcello, Madison and Robert Carson Dunn; brothers: Richard Dunn of Rootstown, George (Reeda) Dunn of Barberton, and Thomas Dunn of Letona, AR.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years Kathleen Dunn in 2005 and also his brother Donald Dunn.
Friends will be received Monday, July 5, 2010, from 4-8 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. A Lions Service will begin at 3:30 PM on Monday. Friends will also be received on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service officiated by Pastor Susan Woodall at the First Congregational Church of Rootstown, UCC, 4022 State Route 44, Rootstown. Interment will follow at Homeland Cemetery.
