

She was born June 13, 1930, in Shalersville, Ohio, to parents Isaac Ray and Verda (Pierce) Black. Ruth worked in the banking industry for over 30years, mostly with County Savings until her retirement from TransOhio. Ruth was also well known in the community as an Independent Distributer of Watkins Products.
She was a member of Portage Faith United Methodist Church, where she was active with the United Methodist Women, including Hope Circle. Ruth enjoyed crocheting, floral gardening, and watching sports on TV. She was also a member of the Ravenna Garden Club and the Rootstown Chamber of Commerce.
Ruth is survived by her children: Doris Ann (Gene) Gharky and Donald (Margie) Haney; her grandchildren: Adam (Christina) Gharky, Matthew (Kaleena) Gharky, Bryan Haney, Janice (Rusty) Robinson, and Avien (Todd) Bost; her sister Virginia Goodell; and her brother Gordon (Peg) Black; as well as her 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald E. Haney, her sister Jeanne Cherry, her brothers, Robert, James, and Paul Black, and by her beloved granddaughter Laura Ann Gharky.
Friends will be received Friday, April 1, 2016, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Friends may also call on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service at the Portage Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Joyce Hoile and Reverend Ron Huff officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
