Shawn Joseph Cairns

Shawn was born December 10, 1982, in Barberton, Ohio. He graduated from Rootstown High School in 2001 and received an Associate Degree in Interactive Media Technology from Stark State in 2007. Shawn was a past member of the Wadsworth Boy Scout Troop 406, the Kent Chapter of Demolay, and the Rootstown United Methodist Church. Shawn was presently employed by Cummins Facility Services where he was the current “Star of the Month” employee.

Shawn was a “Gentle Giant.” He would help anyone at any time, always trying to make the world a little better place. Family was the most important thing in Shawn’s life. Holiday gatherings, family reunions, vacations, even spontaneous dinners of takeout food were a cause for celebration. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, and the absence of his presence will never be filled.

Shawn is survived by his mother and step-father Nancy and Jim Ludwick, his father John Cairns, his sister Melissa Cairns, his nieces Alyssia Hospodor and Isabella Pritchard, and his great-nephew Ethan Jarvis. He also leaves behind his aunts and uncles: Leo Cairns, Don and Terry Cairns, Glenn and Carol Cairns, Bruce and Holly Engel, Ron and Elaine Presco, Larry and Deanna Ludwick, Joe and Trish Len, and Kathy Kossivas.

Shawn was preceded in death by his grandparents Howard and Thelma Tackitt, Thomas and Rosalyn Cairns, and Edward and Ann Ludwick, as well as his aunts Rebecca Goudy and Betty Cairns, and his uncle Joseph Cairns.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM with a memorial service officiated by Pastor Steve Bailey at 12:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
