Letha Valentine Chambers (nee Hawthorne) was born Feb. 14, 1920, and died Dec. 1, 2011, at age 91. Chambers was preceded in death by her husband, Rollin (Friday) E. Chambers. She is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. Her radiant personality and warm charm will be missed by those who knew her best. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Lee attended the University of Cincinnati and began her career in retail with Shillito’s. For over 21 years she enjoyed a successful career in women’s designer fashion, which included extensive travel across the U.S. and the Orient. In 1960, Chambers moved to San Antonio where she assumed a clothing merchandiser position with Joske’s department store. It was there that she fell in love with the man with whom she would spend the next 40 years of her life—Friday Chambers. In 1976, the Chambers moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she retired from the business world. During the next phase of her life, she volunteered for many charities and served in many leadership positions, including her proudest position as President of the Fort Worth Women’s Club. The world was enriched by this incredible woman. There will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The Alois Alzheimer’s Center 70 Damon Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45218 513-605-1000 as a tribute to the terrific care they provided for Lee in the last year of her life.
