Brooke Moyer Manbeck, 91, of Reading, PA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Born in the same home where he lived for all his life, he entered the world on July 11, 1933, as the cherished son of the late Marie (Scholl) Becker and Carl B. Manbeck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-sister, Louise M. Schaeffer.
Brooke attended Reading High School and served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, enlisting on July 15, 1953, and receiving his honorable discharge on June 3, 1955. A Gold Circle member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Brooke never hesitated to show his patriotism and dedication to his fellow servicemen.
Upon returning to civilian life, Brooke built a successful career as a cement mason, dedicating decades to his craft and leaving his mark—literally—on countless buildings throughout the area. As a long-standing member of Cement Mason Local 105 O.P.C.M.I.A. since July 23, 1956, Brooke was not only a skilled tradesman but also a leader—serving as Financial Secretary and Business Agent for the local union. His craftsmanship and leadership also extended through roles at E.A. Reider Construction and Burkey Construction.
A proud Mason for over 40 years, Brooke was a member of Chandler Lodge No. 227, where he earned the prestigious title of 32nd Degree Mason. His involvement extended to the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Neversink Forest No. 32, where he cherished the camaraderie and shared values.
Brooke was a lifelong member of Oliver Reformed Church UCC, where he faithfully worshipped and fostered a deep connection with his community and his faith.
An ardent lover of American history and architectural preservation, Brooke could often be found antiquing, admiring historic structures, or exploring sites on the National Register of Historic Places. He was a fixture in his neighborhood, loved by the local children, and “Poppy” especially enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons. Whether sharing his knowledge of historic landmarks or inspiring others with his love of craftsmanship, Brooke made sure his enthusiasm for history and preservation lived on through his family and friends.
Brooke was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Katherine F. (Kreisher) Manbeck. Together, they celebrated an incredible 69 years of marriage on December 3, 2024. His legacy also lives on through his children, Kevin C. Manbeck and his wife Cynthia S., of Wyomissing, and Kim L. Manbeck Williams, wife of the late James L., of Spotsylvania, VA.
