Ernest Tyrone Walton Sr., 74, known as "Gentle Giant", entered his eternal gates on Saturday February 7, 2026 in The Reading Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Jean (Battle) Walton who he shared 55 years of marriage.
"BIG ERN" was born in Reading on June 21, 1951, a son of the late Alfred and Mary (Watkins) Walton. Ernest was a 1970 Reading High School graduate who loved and served the Lord all of his life.He was employed by the Reading Hospital as an orderly for 40 years retiring there. He served as Pastor for many years, even ministering in Romania and New Orleans. His family was everything to him and so were the Eagles on gameday.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, Ernest leaves to cherish in his memory, his children; Alisha Walton, Ernest Walton, Jr., Darel K. Lee, bonus daughter, Zy'aire Martinez, 2 sisters, Barbara Jean Nunn and Alice Walton, 3 grandchildren; Kirsten Queenan, Jayden Holt and D.J., and 4 great grandchildren; Jacir, twins, Norie and T.J. and Aubrey AKA "Peppa Jones". Also surviving are a host of relatives and close family friends.
Ernest will be met in heaven by his siblings; William Walton, Dorothy Wilson and Margaret Dennis.
He fought a good fight and finished his course; and he kept the faith.
A Home Going Service will be Tuesday February 17, 2026 at 11 AM in Spring Valley Church of God, 2727 Old Pricetown Rd., Temple PA 19560. A viewing will be 9-11am in the church. Burial will be Wednesday February 18, 2026 at Berks county Memorial Gardens at 10 AM. Anyone wishing to attend may meet at the cemetery office.
