Gerald Mick Sheridan Showalter Jr.

Gerald S. “Mick” Showalter, Jr., 60, of Exeter Twp., passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the Reading Hospital on Saturday, May 7, 2016. He was the loving husband of Catherine A. (Lubas) Showalter. The couple married June 14, 1974 in West Wyomissing Chapel. They shared 41 years of marriage.

Born in Reading on July 20, 1955, Mick was a son of Fern Iona (Derr) Showalter and the late Gerald S. “Mick” Showalter, Sr. He was a 1974 Reading High School graduate. Mick was employed with the Reading Hospital for 25 years as an Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Technician before retiring in 2011.

Mick was a member of the Pikeville Sportsman Association. He enjoyed working on cars and watching NASCAR. He was known as a handyman and electrician. He enjoyed traveling with the family to Ocean City and Hawaii but his favorite destination was Alaska.

His family was his life. He enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye.

In addition to his mother, Fern of Exeter Twp. and his wife, Catherine of Exeter Twp.; Mick is survived by two children, Joel S. Showalter and his wife, Kelly D. of Katy, TX and Kyle J. Showalter and his wife, Karrie L. of Oley; five grandchildren, Gavin, Owen and Emma Showalter of Katy, TX and Stella and Piper Showalter of Oley; a brother, David A. Showalter of Alsace Twp. and a sister, Diana L. Showalter of Exeter Twp.

Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Shirley M. (Custo) Lubas of Ocean City, MD.

A funeral service for Mick will be Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 10am in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 11th from 6 to 8pm and on Thursday from 9 to 10am. Mick will be laid to rest in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.

Flowers are welcome and family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Rd., Birdsboro, PA 19508.
