

Harold Lloyd Strickler, 92, of Shillington, passed away in the Mifflin Center on Saturday, December 26, 2015. He was the loving husband of the late MaryEllen (Speece) Strickler. The couple met while working at Mohn’s Hats and married in Reading on June 29, 1946, sharing 69 years of marriage together.
Born in Shoemakersville on March 15, 1923, Harold was a son of the late Abel C. and Nettie Mae (Kline) Strickler. Harold was a 1941 Reading High School graduate. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during WWII. While in the Philippines, he met John Wayne and from then on, he was a huge fan of his. Harold was a member of the American Legion Gregg Post #12.
He was a member of the Salvation Army of Reading where he volunteered with MaryEllen for food distribution on Thanksgiving and Christmas. He also delivered Angels for the Angel Tree.
Harold was employed for 35 years a machine operator for Dana Parish Corp. before retiring in 1986. When he was in high school, he picked apples. He later worked at the hat factory before going off to war. When he returned state side, he again worked at the factory until he went to Dana.
He enjoyed roller skating and roller derby in his younger years with his wife, MaryEllen. He liked puzzles and had a green thumb. He specialized in growing African Violets.
Harold is survived by a son, Ralph Harold Strickler and his wife, Jane Louise (Hill) of Charlotte, NC; a granddaughter, Kari Lynn (Strickler) Addis and her husband, Robert James, r. of Shillington and two great granddaughters, Andria Lynn and Valleri Jane Addis, at home in Shillington.
In addition to his parents, Abel and Nettie and his wife, MaryEllen; Harold is predeceased by a brother, Lee Strickler and two sisters, Ellen Strickler and Helen (Strickler) Boyer.
Services for Harold will be Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:30am in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reiffton. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Saturday from 10:30am until the time of service. Harold will be laid to rest next to MaryEllen in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
