Born on March 31, 1941, in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Eckroth and Viola E. (Keim) Fitterling.
Jolyn was welcomed into heaven by her son, Robert J. Fierro, and her beloved husband, Russell M. Hess Jr.
She dedicated over 20 years working as a secretary at ManorCare Sinking Spring, now Sinking Spring Nursing and Rehab. In addition, she spent many years with the Berks County Intermediate Unit as a school bus aide.
Jolyn found joy in watching the birds that gathered around her home, especially at her hummingbird feeders, and she took great pride in caring for her flower beds. She was also a fan of NASCAR, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. being her favorite driver over the years.
Above all, Jolyn treasured time spent with her family. She was truly a people person, known for her warmth, kindness, and sincere friendliness. Her smile was ever-present, and she was often seen greeting others with a wave, even throughout her illness.
Jolyn’s loving spirit lives on through her son, Michael D. Fierro and his significant other, Kathy Mayo; her sister, Nancy Malandra; and her stepdaughters, Wendy Hess and Kelly Keinert.
A viewing will be held at Auman’s Inc., 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A prayer service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
