Lawrence John Hartman, 86, of Reading, Pennsylvania passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025 in his residence surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Joan M. (Strunk) Hartman with whom he shared 65 years of marriage on June 11 of this year.
Lawrence was born in Reading on August 10, 1938 a son of the late Elmer and Edna (Angstadt) Hartman. He was a 1956 Muhlenberg High School graduate and served his country in the Army Reserves. Lawrence was employed by the Reading Railroad as an apprentice on sheet metal and then continued employment at Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies as a sheet metal worker retiring there. Lawrence co-coached little league baseball for Hyde Park Padres, enjoyed bowling and was an avid hunter venturing to Wyoming and Canada for game. He was a member of Golden Leaf Hunting Camp in Sullivan County and would stock fish for PA. Game Commission. He treasured his times taking his children to fishing rodeos and carp fishing in Lancaster. Lawrence had great passion for the great outdoors where he and his family spent most summer months in Delaware fishing, crabbing and clamming. He enjoyed attending many of his grandchildren sports and band activities, as well as teaching them to fish.
Also surviving are his 3 children; Bonnie and her husband Steven DeTurck, Ruth and her husband Richard Sassaman and Larry and his wife Amber Hartman, sister, Marie widow of John Snyder, and 4 grandchildren, Sarah (DeTurck) Farrier, Andrew DeTurck, Veda Hartman and Tyler Hartman and his beloved dog, Sparky.
A visitation for Lawrence will be Friday, August 1, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Auman's Inc., 390 W. Neversink Road, Reading, PA 19606, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM.
