Leon Winston Lang Sr.

Leon Winston Lang Sr.,84, of Reading, PA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at his home. Born in Grenada on December 6, 1940, he was a cherished son to the late Henrietta (McIntosh) Lang and Dandiman Lang. In addition to his parents, Leon was greeted in heaven by his wife Jenora (Dunbar) Lang; his son Leon Winston Lang Jr.; his brother Waldron Lang; his sister Evelyn Lang and his 6 nieces and nephews Dupree, Joe, Jeanine, Najeeba, Wally Jr., and James.

Leon was no stranger to hard work. For over 30 years, he worked as a sandhog for Jobeski without ever missing a day; a record of dedication that spoke louder than words. He also spent 40 years as a forklift driver and produce worker at Hunts Point Market in the Bronx, where he retired from both with the same quiet dignity he lived by. A working man through and through, Leon believed in showing up and getting it done.

In his spare time, Leon’s heart belonged to the wild frontier. He had a deep love for horses, Native American culture, and westerns; anything that featured a dusty trail and a Indian with a story. You could often find him kicked back with a cold beer in hand, a Yankees game on the TV, and his oldies playing in the background. Mighty Sparrow sang the soundtrack of his life, but “Oh What a Night” always got him singing.

Leon was a storyteller at heart. He could talk your ear off about the good old days, and he never met a conversation he didn’t like. If you had a chair and a little time, he had a memory to share.

Leon’s spirit lives on through his devoted daughter, Denise S. Lang, and her husband, Joseph Marshall; his sister, Uneeda Shade; 3 his sisters-in-laws—Lucille Simpkins, Rev. Dr. Alfreda Dunbar Arradondo, and Elder Nancy Dunbar and by his 2 brothers-in-laws, Pastor Bobby Simpkins and Aaron Arradondo.

His legacy also continues through his grandchildren: Shawntay Lang-Mendoza (Jose Mendoza), Domonique Lang, Shakish Johnson, Dajahvue Johnson, Tyshon Lang Sr., Lashawn Lang, Katon Lang Sr., and Tyshawn Lang.

Leon was a proud great-grandfather to: Angelique Cruz, Dante Lang, Jeremy Lang, Alexus Mendoza, True Lewis, Journey Rodriquez, Gabriel Rodriquez, Saniyjah Johnson, Jahmeir Rattciffe, Jordan Mendoza, Damien Lang, Dashawnty Lang, Tyshon Lang Jr., Katon Lang Jr., Leonidas Lang, Tyanna Lang, and London Lang.

His love reached even further to his great-great-grandchildren: Gianna Jeanine Lang, Nasiya Lang, and Marz Lang (Pebbles).

Leon will also be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews, including: Mary, Lizzy, Tony, John, Cheryl, Janet, Albert, Jennifer, Bernice, Denise, Gerald, Desmond, Jarbar, Adam, Kharton, Sharief, Jamal, Kimberly, Jessica, Nechemia, Khalilah, Treena, Maia, Robert, Nicole, and Yosiah.

A viewing for Leon will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.

He lived like the heroes he watched on screen—tough, loyal, and true to his word. A family man who walked tall and worked harder than most. The frontier’s quiet now, the campfire’s low. Rest in eternal peace, my dear daddy.
