Luz Maria Perez

Luz M. Perez, 79, died on March 11th, 2017 in the Reading Hospital in the presence of her loving family. She was born in Puerto Rico on June 2, 1937, a daughter of the late Lorenzo Garcia Calderon and Juana Melendez Carrasquillo.

Ms. Perez was survived by her children: Mary Luz Teissonniere and her husband, Luis A., of Conn.; Pedro A. Gonzalez and his wife, Rebecca, of Reading; Ada I. Rivera of Reading; Elizabeth Rivera of Fla.; Carmen Rivera of Reading; and Adelaida and her husband, Dennis Colon of Reading; 29 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and approximately 27 siblings.

She lived a full and happy life and was employed by Giorgio Foods, and later as a self-employed chef, until retiring. She was a strong matriarch of 4 generations. She was nurturing, generous, had a giving heart and was the glue that held her family together. We will dearly miss her and continue her legacy of love, selflessness and service to family and community. We love you Lela!

Ms. Perez was predeceased by her daughter, Milagros Rivera; and 2 grandsons, Luis Pagan and Frankie Mercado; and also 3 siblings.

Services will be Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 8 p.m. in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading. Graveside services will be Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Reading. A viewing will be Thursday 6-8pm in the funeral home.
