Mary was born on April 13, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was one of eight siblings born to the late Ulysses and Almeter (née Sims) Bowman. Mary was a proud graduate of Simon Gratz High School. After graduating, Mary worked at Einstein Hospital with her older sister Christine until she married her childhood sweetheart Donald or Tug as he was lovingly known. They were married for 48 years until his death in 2013. Mary and Tug traveled the world together for 20 plus years. He was a proud member of the United States Army retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class. They lived in many places. Among them were Maryland, Colorado, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina and Germany, expanding their family as they went. Mary was a homemaker and lovingly raised 6 children. The family would eventually settle to Yeadon, PA in the mid 1980’s where Mary resided for 35 years. When her youngest David entered high school, Mary started her next career at the United States Postal Service. She remained there until retirement in 2013. She always encouraged anyone seeking employment to “get yourself into that post office!” So I’d say she loved her occupation.
Mary accepted the Lord as her savior early in life and although she didn’t have a church home, she enjoyed visiting different churches everywhere she lived. She especially liked to sit in the back unnoticed to receive the word and enjoy the music. She had a great love for music. Eventually she settled on Sunday service at home with her and her television, as new visitors are almost always recognized and welcomed and she was somewhat shy.
Mary will be deeply missed. She leaves to cherish her memory, her 6 children, Monique Washington (David), Nicole Williams (Rahim), Donald R. Weston Jr. (Melissa), Camille Shaw (Chris), Ileana Murray (Steve) and David Weston, her niece, Shelly, whom she lovingly regarded as a bonus daughter, a loving brother, Sylvester Bowman (Gwen), a loving sister, Louise Bowman, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a host of loved nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mary is predeceased by her husband, Donald R. Weston Sr. (Tug), her sisters, Christine, Barbara, Betty Jean and Jocelyn, her brother Ulysses(aka Junior), her 1st born grandson Bobby (aka #1 grandson) and her cherished nephew Darnell and other loved family members.
