Maxine "Sisse" Louise Smith, 75, of Reading, Pennsylvania slipped away into the arms of our Lord and Savior Sunday, April 28, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband, William S. Smith.
Maxine was born in Frederick, MD., on September 19, 1948, a daughter of the late, William and Agnes (Bowen) Hammond.
She was a true and faithful member of St. James Chapel COGIC where she was a secretary and on the hospitality team. She enjoyed going to the casinos, especially playing the penny slot machines. Maxine was employed by Lucent Technology as a clean room operator for over 30 years retiring there.
In addition to her husband, Maxine is survived by her children; Marcellus Hammond, Zachary Smith, Shelly Herbert and Gregory Smith, her siblings; William Hammond, Karen Rhodes and Tanya Kam
a, 24 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Maxine was predeceased by her son, Rodney Dwayne Smith, and 4 siblings; Patricia Bowen, Diane Ali, Barbara Hammond and Bernard Hammond.
A viewing for Maxine will be Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at St. James Chapel COGIC, 11 S. 9th St., Reading, PA 19602, followed by A Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM.
