Nydia E. Colon

Nydia E. Cruz-Colon, 75, of Reading, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2015. She was the loving wife of Eligio C. Colon Sr. Born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico on February 17, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Fulgenico and Francisca Cruz Jimenez.

Nydia was a faithful member of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church on South 5th, where she was very active. She was the past President of Society of the Sacred Heart and Vice President of Hogar Crea. She was employed with the State of Pennsylvania in the Employment Office.

In addition to Eligio Sr., Nydia is survived by three sons: Eligio C. Colon Jr. and his wife, Nivia, of Reading; Ellis Colon and his wife, Milagros, of Reading; and Dennis Colon and his wife, Adelaida, of Reading; a daughter, Wanda Colon-Mate and her husband, Martin, of Los Angeles, CA; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her four brothers: Ramon Crespo of NC, Angel R. Jimenez of Puerto Rico, Louis Jimenez of Puerto Rico and Fulgencio Jimenez of Puerto Rico; and a sister, Rosa M. Jimenez- Negron of FL.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 22, 2015, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter the Apostle RCC, 322 S. 5th St., Reading, PA 19602. Family and friends will be received in the church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Nydia will be laid to rest in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, Reading is entrusted with the arrangements.
