Phyllis Hassler Rittenhouse

Mrs. Phyllis Hassler Rittenhouse, 93, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully in her home at Columbia Cottage. She was the loving wife of the late Paul S. Rittenhouse, Sr. Mr. Rittenhouse passed away in November of 2008.

Born in Wernersville on October 5, 1923, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Amos and Edith (Noll) Hassler. She was a 1939 graduate of Wilson High School and went on to attend Kutztown State Teachers College, currently Kutztown University, for three years.

A devoted and faithful, lifelong member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Reading, she remained very active as long as she could. She was first employed with Bell Telephone and moved on to Wilson Safety Products as a draftsperson. Later she was employed with Arrow International as a draftsperson for 14 years before retiring in 1989.

Phyllis was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, a member of the Pagoda Ramblers Camping Club and volunteered in the gardens at Berks Heritage Center.

Surviving is her son, Paul S. Rittenhouse, Jr. and his wife, Patricia Ann of Reading, two grandchildren, Amanda Rittenhouse of Philadelphia and Alyssa Rittenhouse-Keville and her husband, Thomas of Los Angeles, CA and three nieces, Ann (Hassler) Bossler of West Wyomissing, Ruth (Hassler) Goos and her husband, Rev. Harry Goos of Wernersville and Eileen (Powell) Shultz, PhD and her husband, Robert of Wernersville.

She is predeceased by a brother, Willis F. Hassler; a sister, Edith (Hassler) Powell and her husband, Sherman and a nephew, David Hassler.

Family and friends will be received at 9:30am on Monday in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Graveside Committal will be at 10am in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading. A Memorial Service will be held in Phyllis’ home church on Monday at 11am, Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 4th and Windsor Sts., Reading, PA 19601.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 4th and Windsor Sts., Reading, PA 19601.
