Robert “Bobby” J. Asthon, 55, of Kentucky; formerly of Reading, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 22, 2016. He was a beloved son of Marina (Yatron) Asthon and the late John George Robert Asthon. He was the father and “brah” of his son, Greyson T. Asthon of Kentucky.
Born in Karachi, Pakistan on May 13, 1961, Bobby lived a full and happy life and excelled at anything he did. Whether it was academics, athleticism, business or humanity, he was the recipient of numerous awards, medals, trophies and achievements throughout his life. As a child, his academic abilities merited his skipping a grade. In high school, he was one of a select group of students accepted into an accelerated undergraduate to graduate program. As an adult, he enjoyed a long and successful career as an insurance underwriter who consistently demonstrated great business acumen.
Bobby became an Eagle Scout at age 17. As a teen, he was a volunteer at Bryn Mawr Hospital and also coached little league baseball. He was a skilled bowler, golfer, fisherman and was a highly regarded figure in the free-style skateboarding community. Bobby’s early years found him living in Pakistan, Italy, New York and eventually Pennsylvania. As an adult, he lived in Kansas, Kentucky and Pennsylvania besides traveling much of the country on business. In recent years he traveled to Sweden and Canada to cheer on and support his son, Greyson, compete and win World Amateur free-style Skateboarding Championship titles. His greatest achievement and passion in life was his “best buds, always”, Greyson. Bobby was father, mother and best friend to him; the person he was most proud of and most valued in his life.
In addition to his mother, Marina and his son, Greyson; Bobby is survived by a brother, Nicholas H. Asthon and his wife, Min-Yeh G. Chang of Brookline, MA; a sister, Marilyn Y. Bahr and her husband, Thomas of Beverly Farms, MA; a nephew, Trevor James Bahr; an elderly canine “baby” Peenie; numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, business associates, customers and dear friends, especially Max, Lee and Vonna. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all.
Services for Bobby will be Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 9:30am in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 7 to 9pm. Bobby will be laid to rest in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading.
