

His wife, Norma (Leonard) Quar-les, who was the love of his life, died June 17, 2003.
He was born in Reading on Aug. 28, 1917, a son of the late Edgar R. and Gracy (Fry) Quarles.
Robert served during WWII as a Corporal with the 920th Air Base Security Battalion.
He was featured in an article in Historical Review of Berks County, about the few remaining African American veterans of WWII.
He was an artist, fond of crossword puzzles, and enjoyed watching war shows and building shows on television. He also enjoyed traveling and was featured on a Berks Cable war veterans segment.
Robert is survived by his twin nieces, Rosalind Piper and Roxanne and her husband, David Rosado. Also surviving him are his great nieces, family and friends.
Robert loved his family, and his family also reciprocated with their love.
Services will be Sunday, Nov. 27, at 3 p.m. in the Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn Street, Reading. A viewing will be Sunday, Nov. 27, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private. www.theocauman.com
