NY. She was educated in the public schools of New York and graduated from Mabel Dean High School in
New York City. At a very early age, Theresa enjoyed fashion, music and socializing. Theresa was very
much a people person and that would carry her the rest of her life. Theresa worked in various hospitals
and nursing homes throughout New York City, as a Nurse Assistant and Nurse Technician.
In 1962, Theresa was blessed with a baby boy named, James Thomas (Tommy) Starckey, Jr, whom she
loved and cherished. Tommy, as Theresa affectionately called her son, spent many hours with his mother,
during her later years, sharing wonderful conversations and insightful discussions.
In 1978, Theresa made the biggest and most important life change when she gave her life to Christ. She
dedicated her whole being, works and energy to serving the good Lord from that point forward. Many
saw and benefited from her walk with the Lord through her gentle teachings, biblical guidance and
shared Word from God. She was a true Christian, a faithful Believer in Christ and a dedicated biblical
student.
In 1981, Theresa left New York City and spent the remainder of her life in Reading, PA, where she served
the Lord speaking, serving and fellowshipping at several churches. Theresa truly loved the Lord and God’s Word; she wanted to share God’s truth with everyone.
In 1990, Theresa was overjoyed and blessed to have a grandson, named James Thomas Starckey III. She spent countless hours sharing God’s Word and discussing life lessons with James. By 1999, both Tommy and James joined Theresa in moving to the Reading, PA area.
Theresa worked for over 20 years with the Reading Hospital in several roles, including in the ER and
psychiatric units, mainly during the night shifts. She left a caring and bright impact wherever she worked
or served. She retired from the Reading Hospital with many fond memories of nurses and staff with
whom she worked.
Theresa’s beautiful smile and positive energy touched everyone she engaged with or even met for just a
moment. She was a light that could not be missed. Thank God for creating an amazing person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milford Ryan and Viola Belle Dudley, her brother Paul Ryan
(deceased) from New York, and her sister Jean Ryan (deceased) from Georgia. She leaves to cherish her
memories, her son, James (Tommy) Starckey, her grandson James Starckey III, her brother Pierre Grace
from Long Island, NY and multiple loving cousins in New York, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Georgia
and South Carolina.
A gathering of friends and relatives for Theresa will be held Friday, June 28, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Theo C Auman, 247 Penn Street, Reading, PA 19601, followed by A Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM. Theresa will be laid to rest in Charles Evans Cemetery.
