Verllie "Val" Osborne Weller, age 82, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Douglassville, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. She was born and raised in the mountains of Virginia and in Roan Mountain, Tenn., by the late James Greene Osborne and Chloie (Harman) Osborne.
Her life was filled with bluegrass and gospel music, and lots of love. Val worked hard to support her family at the Penndell Knitting Company and also Brentwood Industries before her retirement.
She was loved and gave love to every child in her neighborhood and was affectionately known as mom. Although it was a struggle raising her large family, there was always enough food on the table for the neighborhood kids. Val had a persistent and fierce will to live even to the end.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Lee Weller; a son, Roger Dean Weller; a grandson, Robert W. Bulat Jr.; and four siblings: Margie Johnson, Virginia Christian, Allie Williams and Vinard Osborne.
She is survived by her six children: Rosalee Brooke and her husband, John, Michael Weller Sr., Gary Weller and his wife, Dolores, Lorrie Ann Gearhart and her husband, Gary Jr., Janet Lynn Roach and Larry James Weller; and nine grandchildren: Anthony Weller, Chad Schweitzer, Christopher Weller, Derek Gearhart, Jessica Weller, John Brooke Jr., Michael Weller Jr., Serena Kenton and Stephanie Frantz. Val is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Markland; her furry companion, Snoopy; and her best friend, Teresa Borelli.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, at the Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606, followed by a wake.
