

He was born in Opelika, Alabama, on December 29, 1945, a son of the late, Booker T and Emma Lee (Giles) Edwards. "Badeye" was a 1966 Reading High School graduate and then became a member of U.S. Armed Forces. He was an Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War (1966-1968). He was in the Artillery Unit and honorably discharged as SGT Technical Sergeant-E5. "Badeye" earned commendations including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After serving his country, he was employed by Continental Can Company from 1968-1991.
The Edwards brothers were known to many as exceptional athletes. Starting at their Southside playground "Reading Iron" then throughout the city. "Badeye" was blessed with God given talent and excelled in multiple sports with football being his strongest. He was the starting quarterback for the Reading Keystone Semi-professional football team, along with his older brother Jesse who played alongside him in the backfield. Walter was strong-willed all the way up to the last hours on this earth. One of his last statements to his family was, "Don't worry about me, I did everything I wanted to do in Life."
Surviving are his siblings; Jesse Edwards, Larry Edwards and Brenda Clayborne, son, Duane Edwards, grandchildren and a host of numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and close family friends.
Walter was predeceased by his 2 children; Rodney Williams and Aeyisha N. Holdren and his 2 siblings; Herbert Edwards and Booker T. Edwards, Jr.
The Edwards Family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during this moment of bereavement. Walter will be laid to rest with honors at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Friday March 15, 2024 at 1pm. Anyone wishing to attend may be at the funeral home by 11:30!!! OR they can meet at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Rd., Annville, PA 17003.
A Celebration of Life arrangement is being planned and the family is asking for privacy until such a date is set.
