William Emerson Hyland Sr., 89, of Zephyrhills, FL passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Born in Reading, PA on December 28, 1934, he was a son to the late Lewin Hyland Sr. and Santa (Correnti) Hyland. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brother Lewin Hyland Jr.
William was a graduate of Reading High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in business from the University of Pittsburgh. William proudly dedicated 11 years in U.S Army with the 101st Airborne Division and served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, facing the challenges of war with unmatched bravery. Upon returning to civilian life, William made a career as a pharmacy technician; retiring from Reading Hospital.
In 2009, William and his wife Lucille moved to Zephyrhills, FL; where he was the treasurer of the homeowners association at the Ramblewood Village, where he resided until his death.
William was a lifetime member of Victor Emmanuel Beneficial Society and Lions Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, biking, boxing, parachuting, camping, staying active, playing poker and cooking.
William's spirit will be carried on by his loving wife of 35 years, Lucille (Wagner) Hyland; his 4 children William Hyland Jr., Cathy Phillips, Theresa Hart and Harold Spatz. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren to cherish his memory.
A viewing for William will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Followed by a prayer service commencing at 11:00 AM, with Rev. David Duquette officiating. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park,Reiffton.
