Born February 21, 1918 in Merkle, Texas and passed away July 4, 2011 in Redding, California.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary, his two daughters, Marilyn and Carol, his two granddaughters, Brenna and Meghan and three great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Eva Mae and Frances as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
His son, David, preceded him in death.
He was married November 9, 1941 and not long after went into the Army. His WWII tour of duty took him to Sicily, Italy and North Africa where he was assigned to the ammunitions unit. Upon his honorable discharge, he reunited with his young bride and they resided in Watsonville, California. He was employed by United Grocers, a wholesale grocery business. He was an active member of the local Teamster's Union. In 1962, when the company transferred to the bay area, he moved his family to Pinole, California. Upon retirement in 1980 he and his wife moved to Redding, California to be closer to his brothers, Coy and Cecil as well as his daughter, Marilyn and son, David who already resided there. He walked the River Trail, making many friends along the way, fished, hunted, backpacked, gardened and built and repaired things. He was a loving, loyal, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a humanitarian with a strong sense of community and a desire to help others for the sheer joy of it. He unselfishly gave of his time and resources to help lighten another's load and create a better place to benefit all.
