Darwin’s family owned “Jellison’s Flying ‘A’ Gas Station” when he was growing up. He went to Enterprise High School and shortly after his senior year he joined the Navy. It was in the Navy that he began cutting hair and was told he had a talent. After the Navy, Darwin went to Barber College and worked in Sacramento for a brief period. He moved back up to Redding, where he opened up his barber shop, “Enterprise Barber Shop”, on Hartnell Avenue. Darwin met his wife, Shannon, and they were married on July 16, 1977. Darwin had been at his Hartnell location for 37 years.
Over this time, he has become well known by his customers for his eclectic collection of license plates, cans, antiques, and conservative political banter that have made both him and his shop unique. Darwin’s interests were classic cars, hot rods, new cars, politics, going on trips to Reno, and he loved his dog. Darwin’s humor, positive attitude, outlook on life, political talk, and knowledge will be greatly missed by his loyal customers his family and his friends, however, the time has come for him to be reunited with his wife and rest peacefully.
