Edna Maybelle Maynard

Edna Maybelle Maynard of Redding, California passed away on Monday, August 10th, 2015 while under hospice care at the home of her daughter, Barbara Thomas. She was 91 years old. She passed peacefully surrounded by loving family members, her sister, daughter and son-in- law. Edna was born Edna Maybelle Montrees on the 8th of October 1923 in Adamson, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Domenick William Montrees and Winnie Olive Jones. In her early years her parents moved the family to California where Edna spent most of her youth in Trinity and Shasta Counties and became a graduate of Shasta High School in 1942. She married Orrin Heacock on the 26th of October, 1948 in Reno, Nevada. They became the parents of Barbara Jean and Dawna Louis Heacock. Their daughter, Dawna, preceded them in death in 1978. Also preceding her in death was her brother, William Montrees in 1986. Surviving Edna is her sister, Geraldine Whitacre, brother Robert Montrees, daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Jerry Thomas. Also surviving her are her 5 grandchildren, Julie Iverson (husband, Scott), Nathan Thomas (wife, Margarita), Orrin Thomas (wife, Jennifer), Aaron Thomas (wife, Kristina), Melanie McAllister (husband, Zack), and 15 great grandchildren. Edna was a loving and dedicated mother and doting grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy. Her later years were spent living with her sister, Geraldine, whom she loved dearly. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed the friendship of many members of her congregation. All services will be held at Lawncrest Chapel & Memorial Park. The visitation will be Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. The Chapel service will be Saturday at 2:00 pm. The burial will be on Monday at 10:00 am.
