Genevieve Thomasson Pope died Thursday, Sept. 17, she was 105-years-old.
Pope celebrated her 105th on March 21, making her the city’s oldest known citizen. She was born in 1908 and lived her entire life in Northern California.
She attended Anderson Union High School and was a proud member of the graduating class of 1925. She was the high school’s oldest known living alumnus and was named Grand Marshal of the school’s Centennial Homecoming Parade in September 2009.
Pope attended Chico State College, now a university, where she earned a teaching credential.
She taught for 21 years in the Cottonwood Union Elementary School District.
Pope is survived by her two sons, Ken, 78, of Anderson and Pete, 69, of Washington.
