Levi Gilbert Jones
Levi Gilbert Jones passed away December 22, 2011. He left us to be with his family in Heaven and to prepare a place for us as we follow. He has again joined his lovely wife Mary Ann Jones, his oldest son Larry Keith Jones, Larry's son Levi Keith Jones and Ginger's daughter Breanna Roetto. The world is less rich in his passing. He was a humble man who gave credit to others for their achievements and never sought recognition for his. Yet he taught us by example, your word was your bond, there is honesty and dishonesty, there was right and wrong and very little gray. As a longtime cowboy and rancher, he was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean wars as well as a member of the California State Guard (before it was dissolved), where he rose to the rank of Captain. He was a Cub Scout leader, a Boy Scout leader, a founding member of the Bella Vista Water District where he was also a board member. He was an NRA certified instructor, an avid sportsman and a pioneer in every sense of the word. He settled in Redding in 1950 with his wife and raised three proud boys, retiring from AT&T in the 70's. His best friends were the Chief of Police, Northern California Fish and Game Bureau Chief and several Highway Patrolmen. We knew as kids we would never get away with anything. Levi left behind his sons Ronald Jones and Randy Jones, his lovely daughters-in-law Beverly Jones and Ginger Jones, grandchildren Jayson Jones and Justin Jones of Redding, Kizzie Marie Funkhouser of Renton, WA, Nicklas Roetto of Wilsonville, OR, brother Art Jones of Yreka, sisters Edna Lewis of Lewis, ID, Anna Dick of Colastoga, CA and Mable Pitteroff of Reno, NV as well as many nieces and nephews and a lot of dear friends. A Memorial service will be held at the Redding Rodeo Grounds in the clubhouse on December 31,2011 at 1 PM. We lost one of the good ones, boys.
