11-1-1918 - 3-19-2011
Born November 1, 1918 at his home by Cow Creek in Oak Run, Norman Lee Phillips was the second youngest of the eleven children of Lillian and Edmund Phillips.
He worked in his father's water powered saw mill and drove their big logging truck and delivered lumber. The old water powered mill was replaced with a steam powered facility, which continues its operation to this day.
While serving in the Air Force during WWII Norman deployed from New Orleans on a troop ship bound for the Hawaiian Islands. About halfway to its destination the supply ship accompanying Norman's troop ship was sunk. The troop ship ended up in Panama where Norman's unit stayed to guard the Canal for the duration. Upon returning home after the war, Norman realized his dream of working for the PG&E. During his twenty-nine years with the PG&E, Norman functioned at various locations as a mechanic, powerhouse operator, and roving operator.
Norman married his childhood sweetheart, Donna Jean Stauffer, March 20,1948, and died March 19, 2011, one day before their 63rd anniversary
Anyone who knew Norman realized he loved to visit, talk, and share the 'daily-news'. His highest gifts to his family were; his strong work ethic, honesty, loyalty to family and his love.
Norman leaves behind his wife Donna Jean Phillips, daughters Carol Jean Gage, Sandra Lee Hill and her spouse Gary, four Grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Norman is also survived by his 101 year old sister Edith Stevenson.
Until we are all together again Dad, we will miss you. It was a privilege being there for you, as you were for so many others in our family.
